Car(s): Manxter #1 - Bruce Meyers Baja Race Car Classic Manx #5 '68 Manx Hummbug
Engine Size/Mods: All VW Powered Special Car Information: Bruce’s Baja race car was built to promote the new Manxter 2+2 in 2002. It has been raced 5 times in SCORE’s Baja races and never finished. Next year 2008 the car will race again with Bruce in it. My goal is to finish the race for Bruce.
Story: In 1971 I bought my first Tow’d, after driving it off road for year or so I sold it for other pursuits. In 1997 I ran across another Tow’d (street legal) and discovered the Manx Club. For the next 10 years my wife and I took the Tow’d on every run and several trips to Mexico. But now the Tow’d is too small and running without fenders is taking its toll. So I sold it and I’m starting restoration on the 68 Manx. When it’s done I will start on building the Classic Manx. I had a special chassis made and it will be an automatic with side pods, street car only. When I purchased Bruce’s Baja Manxter I thought it would make a nice recreational buggy, not to be. It wants to haul ass and nothing else. So putting around in 1st and 2nd gear was just not happening. I decided to race it again and have the car finish with Bruce at the wheel. I think it would be a nice 82nd birthday for him. So that’s my story.
