Special Car
Information:
We are in the midst of redoing almost all of them. The 74' was my first car
and we ripped out the back seat to put a huge system in it. It has a rag top sunroof that
is aftermarket and hot pink under glows. The 73" Thing has been my daily driver through
the rain, snow, and sunshine for 6 months now. We slapped on a quick black coat for the
winter. The 70' needs a lot of work, but right now it's lowered, has 60's front fenders, and
frenched in back tail lights. Oh, and did I mention a really bad paint job? The 66' Bus has
nothing done to it, it's completely original.
Special Story:
We wanted a Thing hardtop for the winter and normally they are really expensive,
but we found one in Michigan for almost a quarter of the price. So, my boyfriend got the
bright idea to get into our Thing, that we had just bought and drive it there. On the test
drive the owner said he wouldn't be surprise if it broke down, but my boyfriend wanted to
go anyway. So we headed on our way to Michigan with a convertible top duct - taped 12"
holes all over, raining, snowing, in thirty degree weather or lower without heat. The door
almost fell off on the way there because one of the hinges came loose and we also
snapped the acceleration cable as well. Thankfully we had another one, but I had to use
my cell phone to light up the pedals while he was working because we didn't bring a
flashlight. We also had the push start it down a hill and we never had done that before so
it was a first. We had to stay in a $20 motel where a guy outside was getting arrested for
harassing his neighbors and every few hours during the night we'd check on the car,
hoping it was still there. We found out the next morning that we were on the border of
Canada and Michigan. You could see Canada crossing a lake and it was gorgeous! We
drove our Thing, +700 miles the first time we ever drove it, all the way to Canada.
Awards/ Recognition: The first time I ever entered a show, I won 2nd place with my 74'. I have
the plaque on my wall
